Basildon Park is a magnificent Georgian Manor House set in 400 acres of picturesque and historic parkland. Approached by a sweeping driveway, Basildon Park provides a majestic backdrop for your wedding or corporate event. The property was lovingly rescued from ruin by Lord and Lady Iliffe in the mid 1950s, when they restored the elegant interior, scouring the country to salvage 18th-century architectural fixtures and fittings to reinstate the house to its former glory. The property, which was originally intended for the great entertainments of country house life, now provides a unique historical setting for your special day.
Basildon Park was given to the National Trust in 1978 and was used as a film setting in the 2005 feature film adaptation of Jane Austen's classic Pride and Prejudice. This striking Palladian-style mansion set in extensive parkland is an impressive venue for wedding ceremonies, receptions and corporate events of all sizes. The sweeping driveway leading to an impressive facade creates a dramatic and stylish approach to your perfect wedding or an impressive brand statement for your corporate guests.
Arrive In Style
The dramatic approach to the house allows the bride, newlyweds or your top Corporate Executives to truly arrive in style. You can choose to make your entrance in a vintage Rolls Royce, horse and carriage, or even from a helicopter!
The South Pavilion
Once the private dwelling of Lord and Lady Iliffe, the South Pavilion is a light and airy wing of the house which is available for your exclusive use. Guests enter through the conservatory, which overlooks a beautiful courtyard, and into the main ceremony room. The group is met by another light and spacious room which has a lovely high ceiling and a large functional fireplace which can be lit, creating a romantic, intimate atmosphere. The South Pavilion ceremony room can accommodate fifty guests or a corporate group of 30 guests for a 5-star private dining experience. After the ceremony or meal service, guests can enjoy a glass of champagne in the courtyard, then move onto Lady Iliffe's lawn and into her private rose garden. The location is very secluded and provides a perfect backdrop for your wedding or commemorative event photography. The entire wing of the house is exclusively yours for your event and you are welcome to add your personal touches to each of the rooms.
The Garden Room
The Garden Room is situated on the ground floor of the house and is a truly special place to get married or to hold a corporate event. The room is octagonal with Ionic columns framing the beautifully decorated Eastern designs which adorn the walls. French doors lead directly out onto the east lawn and gardens, which are ideal for your reception drinks and photography. The room can accommodate up to seventy guests (seating for sixty). The beautifully decorated octagonal Garden Room can hold up to 70 guests for either a civil ceremony or corporate reception. The ground floor of the house is a great location for a drinks reception, and the French doors in the Garden Room open out onto the East Lawn and gardens, which provide a stunning backdrop to your wedding day or event photographs.
Marquees
Receptions for larger numbers of guests can be accommodated in a marquee in the Rose Garden (120 guests), the Croquet Lawn (150 guests), both with splendid views over the Thames Valley and historic parkland, or on the lawn directly in front of the house (up to 1000 guests). The marquees that we use can be dressed to have the feel of a permanent, elegant structure and can be fully heated in the winter months.
